Definisi
David Hatch dan Stephen Millward mendefinisikan musik pop sebagai "a body of music which is distinguishable from popular, jazz and folk musics" (tubuh musik yang dibedakan dari musik populer, jazz dan folk).[2] Meskipun musik pop sering dilihat sebagai berorientasi pada singel, itu bukan jumlah dari semua musik grafik, yang selalu berisi lagu-lagu dari berbagai sumber, termasuk klasik, jazz, Rock, dan lagu baru, sementara musik pop sebagai genre biasanya dilihat sebagai yang ada dan berkembang secara terpisah.[3] Dengan demikian "musik pop" dapat digunakan untuk menggambarkan sebuah genre berbeda, yang ditujukan di sebuah pasar pemuda, sering ditandai sebagai alternatif yang lebih lembut untuk rock and roll.[4]Lihat pula
